A few weeks ago, I found myself trying to force a situation that clearly wasn’t going according to plan.
Caylen looked at me, smiled, and said, “Semper Gumby, Kass.”
If you’ve never heard it before, it’s military slang for Always Flexible.
It made me laugh, but it also made me think.
Adaptation is one of nature’s oldest survival mechanisms. Every living system adapts to its environment. Plants adapt. Animals adapt. Businesses adapt. Athletes adapt. Military units adapt.
Humans do too.
The difference is that many of our most important adaptations happen unconsciously.
The child who learned to stay quiet to avoid conflict may become the adult who struggles to speak up.
The entrepreneur who learned to say yes to every opportunity may eventually find themselves burned out.
The competitor who begins playing not to lose often loses the very edge that made them successful.
These aren’t character flaws.
They’re adaptations.
The question isn’t whether you’re adapting.
The question is:
What are you adapting to?
This Thursday, I’ll be leading a FREE conversation inside our Headspace Hub called “Adaptation: The Hidden Driver of Performance.”
We’ll explore:
Why adaptation is one of the oldest technologies of survival.
How unconscious adaptations shape performance, leadership, relationships, and creativity.
The difference between adapting for survival and adapting toward your potential.
How awareness gives us the opportunity to consciously choose our next adaptation.
Whether you’re an athlete, business owner, leader, creator, or simply curious about human behavior, I think you’ll find something that applies to your own life.
Thursday
6:00 p.m. Pacific / 9:00 p.m. Eastern
The session is part of our Inner Pathway series inside the Headspace Hub.
It’s free to attend. Just click the RSVP link and join us live. If you can’t make it, the replay will be available inside The Club.
I’d love to have you there.
Because the goal isn’t to become someone else.
It’s to become aware of who you’ve adapted into being—and decide who you’re adapting into becoming.
